Synopsis
It has become essential for most parents and adults who are involved with younger or older children to develop their knowledge of methods of teaching English Language from rudimentary to advance levels. For children to build a positive attitude towards learning English language from young, the best place to start is at home with the parents themselves. Parents equipping themselves with the methodology of imparting English learning skills to the younger learner, play an important role in building confidence in both the parent and the child.
More and more parents wish their children to learn English from young. It is an evident fact that the parents of the globalized world today, wish their children to get a head start from as young as toddler years.
The vital and the most significant factor in a child’s successful learning journey, is predominantly their parents’ enthusiasm and encouragement. Hence, it is important for parents and adults who are involved with children to understand the methodology of teaching English Language Learning Skills. It is indeed the cornerstone of nurturing delightful learning outcomes for the young or the older learner at home.
This part-time Certificate of Attendance course is mainly aimed at the Adult Learner (Parents or Adults who wish to open their own English Language Learning Centre) who are interested in enriching their knowledge of English Language Learning and Teaching Skills.
English Language Learning Skills would also contribute to the advancement of the learner’s own personal interests in learning. Exposure to the following levels beginning from Kindergarten to the Adult Learner would significantly deepen their engagement especially with a specific age group of young learners or adult learners.

The Certificate of Attendance in English Language Learning Skills would help adults who wish to improve their own Phonics, Look and Say, Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Composition, Creative Writing and Oral skills. Thus, assisting the parents or adults who are interested in improving their own existing knowledge of English Language as well as to deepen the methods of teaching others with much confidence.
Each course covers Basic to Advance learning literacy levels in accordance with the requirements of the (MOE English Syllabus)
Expected Learning Outcomes of the Certificate of Attendance in English Language Learning Skills:
KINDERGARTEN 1 TO 2
The learner will: 1 Learn the methodology of teaching English to Kindergarten 1 and 2
students.
Beginning Reading and Writing Instruction employ an appropriate range of verbal
and non-verbal skills in a variety of situations.2 Interact with individuals and/or groups to teach Phonics, Look & Say and
Whole Language Concept of Reading3 Present information, ideas and opinions coherently. Development of Young Children’s Writing Skills through the Stimulation of their Five Senses PRIMARY 1 TO 6
The learner will: 1 Learn the methodology of teaching English to Primary 1 to 6 Students. How to employ an appropriate and effective range of writing and verbal skills in a variety of situations. Development and focus on Basic Language Teaching Accuracy, Vocabulary, Comprehension and Composition Skills. 2 Learn the importance of understanding the accuracy and gradual development of
the English Language Learning Skills. Development of Higher Grammar-Verbs, Homophones, Punctuation, Grammar Cloze, Editing, Synthesis &Transformation, Comprehension Cloze and Comprehension Open-Ended questions.3 Learn the approaches to gather information, ideas and opinions coherently. Develop Strong Writing Skills, Expression of thoughts, feelings in an imaginative, often unique, and in a poetic creative manner. SECONDARY 1 TO 4
The learner will: 1 Learn the methodology of teaching English to Secondary 1 to 4 Students. How to employ with competence and understanding an appropriate range of writing and verbal skills in a wide variety of specified situations. Development of Comprehension Skills and Summary Writing. 2 Interact with individuals, groups and /or simulated audiences to understand the teaching styles of Listening Comprehension Skills, Oral Pronunciation, Accuracy and Picture Discussions, Conversation and Emphasis on discussion and interaction instead of description. 3 Present a range of information, ideas, concepts and opinions from a variety of sources. Development of Composition / Essay Skills on Narrative, Reflective, Expository, Argumentative, Explanatory and Descriptive essays. THE ADULT LEARNER
The learner will: 1 Learn the methodology of teaching English to The Adult Learner. Employ an
appropriate and effective range of verbal and non-verbal skills in a variety of
situations. Clear Learning Progressions of Grammar and Spoken English.2 Learn the importance of understanding the concepts of teaching Adults. To Write and Communicate. Use the Learning Progressions. Teaching Adults to Make Sense of Vocabulary and develop both Reading and Writing. 3 English Language Learning Skills. Development of Higher Grammar-Verbs, Homophones, Punctuation, Grammar Cloze, Editing, Synthesis & Transformation, Comprehension Cloze and Comprehension Open-Ended questions. - The English Language Learning Skills is a part-time course suitable to develop individual personal proficiency and the learner’s standard of English Language
- Essential for those who wish to open their own Learning Centre with much confidence
- Suitable especially for the parents and adults who wish to become involved with younger or older (children / students) to develop their knowledge of English. The course provides a clear methodology of teaching English Language from rudimentary to advance levels.
- Boost the confidence of adults in Grammar, Vocabulary and Writing Skills especially when they are in preparation for interviews, tutorials, seminars and presentations.
- For those who are preparing to enter, or already following, professional or business careers in which accuracy of English writing skills is a fundamental component.
Target Students/Admission Requirements:
- Candidates should have GCE ‘O’ Levels passes in 3 subjects including English Language
- Candidates with minimum IELTS 5.5
- Professionals who wish to refresh or improve their English Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing, and Communication skills.
The Course Layout
The Certificate of Attendance in English Language Learning Skills is divided into 4 sections.
Adults who are interested in the following 4 sections of the study could take up each course individually.
- Kindergarten 1 & 2
- Primary 1 to 6
- Secondary 1 to 4
- The Adult Learner
Classroom Hours:
Duration of each course is 20 hours Part Time.
2-hour sessions twice a week over a period of 5 weeks.
At the end of the course the candidate will receive a Certificate of Attendance as shown below.
